Heather Newlin chairs Newport’s Government Contracting Practice. She is a senior executive with more than 25 years of experience in defense, intelligence and federal markets as an electrical engineer, business builder, product and program manager, General Manager and executive advisor. In addition to advising CEOs, Boards and PE sponsors on strategy and operational improvements, Ms. Newlin focuses on advising government contractors on transitioning to full and open competition and exits via transaction. Her experience includes managing BAE’s enterprise IT business focused on “as a service” models, directing Northrop Grumman’s public safety business and Department of State portfolio, analyzing the Airborne ISR market, growing command and control systems and implementing a Silicon Valley start-up’s product management processes. She is a current board member and CFO of Asante Africa Foundation, mentor at Women in Technology (WIT) Washington, DC and prior mentor to military veterans at American Corporate Partners (ACP).
Tony Cord is the Managing Director of Newport’s Mid-Atlantic Regional Practice and a champion for diversity, inclusion, education and economic opportunity. He is a practice leader, business growth driver, board member and trusted advisor to mid-market, emerging growth and PE sponsors. Mr. Cord has served in leadership, strategic business development, CEO-advisory, M&A and operating roles in a wide spectrum of small, middle-market and Fortune 500 enterprises - including bootstrapped startups, PE-backed mid-market, emerging growth and publicly-traded global companies. He is a member of Leadership Greater Washington and a former trustee of the Federal City Council of Washington, DC. His career has included leadership roles with top firms including BDO, American Express, Navigant Consulting and Tatum. As a CEO Advisor, he focuses on identifying the challenges and opportunities represented by structural changes threatening legacy company strongholds.
Suniti Ponkshe chairs Newport’s Healthcare Innovations Practice. She has been a consulting leader, operations leader, chief information officer, federal agency advisor, policy analyst and a business advisor. Suniti led many diverse teams in strategic planning and execution, program implementations, business transformation, product development, and operations management in both government and commercial markets. She has built and led advisory services, incubated products, helped companies grow business and market footprint. She worked for CMS and ONC as a staff advisor on implementation of various HITECH and ACA programs which transformed our healthcare industry. As a CIO, she transformed IT organizations from back office support to true information services groups. She continues to work with start-ups serving on their Boards, helping them “productize” their systems, improve operations, and packaging for exit. Currently, she is on the Executive Board of Virginia Center for Health Innovation (VCHI), a nonprofit convener focused on creating better value for Virginians.
